Just as promised, March 5, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II SLR Lens - Mark II (Electronics) I needed this lens so I could take wider angle photos with my canon 30D. My 30D came with a different lens, 28mm-155mm - I researched this online for about a week, and this is the standard all-purpose lens that usually comes with their cameras. I believe I paid $129 for it here - was $199 at other retail outlets - however, none had in stock anyway, so I'd have to wait for it to be delivered. I did not use th express shipping - just whatever was standard. Ordered it on Thursday afternoon and it arrived Monday morning - very quick. Looks brand new - works perfectly. Exactly what I wanted. I saw that sometimes it goes on sale at Amazon for $99, but I couldn't wait - I needed it and $129 was just fine. Better than ordering it at a retail outlet for $199 and having to wait.

I needed a cheap telephoto lens to accompany my 50mm f/1.8 prime lens when shooting around town. Like any other kit lens, it is going to have an ok build and image quality. I like how they added IS to the kit lens now. (don't remember when they started doing that) Image Stabilization on the lens has been helpful for photography AND video, video being something I am really interested in using the 60D for.
I am rating this item four out of five stars because it is a great telephoto lens *for the price*. If you are looking for some amazing glass, don't look here.

Replacement and working, January 3, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II SLR Lens - Mark II (Electronics) I bought this as a replacement for the version before it. I got the original with my Canon Rebel XSi (450D). The motor on that went. It would only turn the focus ring in one direction. That happened twice again. That's right. I have two lenses of the previous version of this lens with faulty motors. They lasted roughly a year and a half each. I think it might be because of people trying to turn the focus ring when the lens was set to auto-focus.
I bought this version about 6 months ago. No problems yet. It is mostly identical to its predecessor with some tiny cosmetic changes. I haven't really noticed a performance difference between the two versions. I'm just hoping the motor will last a couple of years.
It's a good price for decent quality so I'd recommend it if you want this focal length on the cheap.
