Inexpensive macro, December 13, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Canon EF 100mm f2.8 Macro (Electronics) As of the time of this writing (December 2011), this lens has been discontinued for some time now (don't know when).
This is the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro. As a macro lens, it produces 1:1 images. The images are amazing in detail. I don't know how the current lenses (100mm f/2.8 USM and the corresponding L version), but this one is pretty good as is.
I've also used this lens to shoot portraits and with the right lighting, the resulting images are beautiful as well.
The negative points of this lens is that there is no USM motor so autofocus is slow and noisy. I can deal with both of them.
Manual focus can be done in fine detail as well. It takes a full 1 2/3 turns lock-to-lock so each turn of the focus barrel moves the elements only a little bit.
There is also a LIMIT/FULL switch. FULL allows the lens to focus throughout the range of 1.007 - infinity feet (0.307 - infinity meters). LIMIT allows range of 1.007 - 1.877 feet (0.307 -... Read more
